My Sylent-oud is one of those rare products that proves to be better than I could have imagined. Very comfortable to play sitting, and really is nearly silent, which is exactly what I wanted for certain practice situations. But what I didn't expect is that it actually sounds great when plugged into an acoustic amplifier. I could imagine performing with it in situations where I can't bring a full-size oud. The action is perfect, and the 58.5cm scale means I can use either Arabic or Turkish tuning, as required. On top of everything, it's also a work of art, elegant both visually and functionally. Buying an oud online is not easy. Often it's hard to contact a maker or to really get an idea of what quality you're getting. Years ago, I had stumbled across a YouTube video of the Sylent-Oud by SBD-projets, however, at the time I had no plans to buy an oud and I didn't look further into it. In February-March 2021 I began considering getting an oud, but as stated above, doing so online seemed like a gamble in terms of price vs quality. Then I remembered the video of the Sylent-Oud. It would offer me versatility and portability, plus no hidden surprises because of additional taxes. I initially contacted Sylvain about his Oud Moon, which had caught my interest, but after many emails back and forth I settled on a Sylent-Oud with a cedar body and coaxial tuners. Sylvain's communication was excellent: replying promptly, answering questions clearly, and asking questions of his own so that the model and tuning would fit with the customer's intended usage.
As for build quality, the instrument is made with quality components and attention to detail. For instance, the neck profiling and feel is similar to a high-end electric guitar, the fingerboard is level and smooth, and the piezo pickup delivers exceptional warmth, clarity and balance. Although the piezo is passive, it really does not need much boosting whatsoever. I am very happy with the electric oud I bought from Sylvain. It is super precise, it sounds great, I take a lot of fun to play with. It is not expensive for an instrument of this quality. In addition, communication with Sylvain is very easy, he is attentive and attentive to his clients (I say client but we almost have the impression of exchanging with a friend). It has been a pleasure to work with Sylvain.  He was so patient through the thought iterations that finally resulted in the instrument design that was right for me.  While I have two ouds now, the SBD innovation will provide me with a better playing and portable option when I travel to a performance location. I commissioned SBD to build me a custom electric oud.  On the whole I am extremely pleased with every aspect of my experience.  Sylvains customer service was exceptional!  His attention to detail concerning my order and the details concerning everything from manufacturing to shipping along with regular communication of the process really set my mind at ease.   The product arrived quickly and packed securely.  Being an instrument luthier and fine woodworker myself I am a stickler and expect near perfection when I make an investment on this level.   I am extremely pleased with the quality of materials and craftsmanship.  This is not only and electric oud...it is a piece of fine art!  This will be handed down to my son someday. The Sylent-oud is a beautiful instrument. It sounds wonderful, so much better than my old electric oud - really clean and rich. It is beautifully made. You can really see and feel the craftsmanship, it is a pleasure to hold and play. And it arrived 11 days ahead of schedule, which was a happy surprise. Sylvain sent updates throughout the process of making it - it was really nice to have that level of transparency and communication. Highly recommended!
